SNC-LAVALIN CONTINUES GROWTH IN THE WATER SECTOR IN VENEZUELA

Montreal | March 15, 2001

SNC-Lavalin has signed a US$ 15 million contract with the Venezuelan Ministry of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources for the final design and execution of two waste water pumping stations, treatment plant and connecting pipelines for the eastern peninsular city of Carupano in Sucre state. Sewage is presently discharged at sea by the municipality. This project will therefore have a considerable impact on the quality of the environment in the area.

Financing has been arranged by SNC-Lavalin Capital Inc., a subsidiary of SNC-Lavalin, through Export Development Corporation of Canada (EDC) and Fortis Bank (Belgium and US) with support from the Export-Import Bank of the United States.

SNC-Lavalin has been present in Venezuela since 1975 and has carried out projects in the development of water resources in various regions.

SNC-Lavalin Group is one of the leading engineering and construction firms in the world, and a key player in the ownership and management of infrastructure. The group and its companies have offices across Canada and in 30 other countries, and are currently working in some 100 countries. The company is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange (symbol: SNC).
