SNC-LAVALIN SIGNS MAJOR CONTRACT TO BUILD AMMONIA PLANT IN AUSTRALIA
MONTREAL: December 23, 2002 -- SNC-Lavalin is pleased to announce that its subsidiary, SNC-Lavalin (S.A.) Inc., recently signed a contract worth more than US$300 million with Burrup Fertilisers Pty Ltd., for the engineering, procurement and construction of an anhydrous ammonia production plant.
The project includes an ammonia plant, with a production capacity of 2,200 tons of ammonia per day, as well as utilities and associated facilities to support production. The ammonia plant technology will be supplied by Kellogg Brown and Root (KBR).
“Project management and engineering coordination will be based out of our office in Perth, Australia”, said Roger Nichol, Executive Vice-President, SNC-Lavalin. “We are very pleased to be associated with this project - it will be a world-scale ammonia plant.”
The plant will be built on the Burrup Peninsula in Karratha, Western Australia.
“Engineering work will start in January 2003,” said Roland Boulos, Senior Project Director, “We expect the construction of the plant to be completed within 30 months”.
