SNC-LAVALIN, ACTIVE IN BIOFUELS

SNC-Lavalin in Europe (head office in Reims) has just been awarded a project management contract by Saipol for an oil production unit and another by Diester Industrie for a turnkey esterification unit at Le Mériot (10).
“This success is significant for the SNC-Lavalin Group, which seeks to provide global partnership solutions through its varied expertise,” said Jean Claude Pingat, President of SNC-Lavalin S.A.S. in Europe. “SNC-Lavalin would like to be known as a major player in the kinds of industrial projects that should be given a boost by the growing strength of ‘green’ fuels, which is desired by the government.” The project led by Saipol and Diester Industrie, is all the more symbolic because it is being developed in the heart of a large agricultural basin in a region where people have great expectations for the non-food use of plants. The world renowned “industry and agro-resources” centre developed by the Champagne-Ardenne and Picardie regions bears witness to this interest.
The new unit, located in the department of Aube close to Nogent sur Seine, but which will target all nearby regions, will triturate 1 million tonnes of rapeseed a year so as to produce 420,000 tonnes of raw oil, 560,000 tonnes of meal, and 250,000 tonnes of Diester.
SNC-Lavalin will be in charge of project management for the entire operation and will provide full engineering services for five of the components (rapeseed grain and meal storage, preparation plant, extraction plant, liquid storage and racks, energy) for the overall project. In all, the project includes eight components, with esterification plant, ancillary buildings, roads and external works.
The esterification plant will be a turnkey project, and SNC-Lavalin has developed world recognized expertise in this area.
Industrial commissioning is scheduled for July 2007.
