PLACOPLATRE IN VAUJOURS (92): ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL SITE FOR SNC-LAVALIN IN EUROPE
SNC-Lavalin S.A.S. in Europe (*) has been retained to supervise the design of infrastructure and utilities, and provide project management services at a large-scale site for Placoplatre, a subsidiary of Saint-Gobain, in Vaujours (Seine Saint-Denis).
The capital investment in this project is €150 million, and work involves the demolition of an existing 40,000 m2 plant and the construction of 75,000 m2 of buildings. Once completed, the site’s substantial reserves (50 years worth) and a production line ranking among the most efficient in the world, will double its capacity, making it one of the world’s largest gypsum panel plants.
Besides a plaster complex, the Placoplatre site will include a laboratory, an engineering centre and a 2000 m2 plaster training centre. Work on the site is underway, and commissioning of all utilities and infrastructure is expected by the end of 2008. The new plaster complex will be constructed according to High Environmental Quality (HEQ) standards to ensure, among other things, the buildings’ harmonious integration with the surrounding environment, a low-nuisance level, and proper water management.
According to Jean Claude Pingat, Executive Vice-President of SNC-Lavalin Group Inc. and President of SNC-Lavalin S.A.S. in Europe, “this large-scale site once again highlights the diversity of technical expertise that SNC-Lavalin in Europe can draw upon to meet our client’s requirements in the most efficient and effective manner possible.”
*SNC-Lavalin (TSX:SNC) is one of the world’s largest groups of engineering and construction companies, and a major player in the ownership of infrastructure and operating and maintenance services, with a staff of over 13,000 people worldwide and €2.7 billion (CAN$3.8) billion in revenues in 2005.
