Projects Contacts

COPESUL Petrochemical Complex

SLE performed an environmental assessment of Priority Pollutants in order to comply with local government requirements. Completed in 2007, the project provided technical support in planning an exhaustive sampling campaign of multiple matrices (water, air, gas, soil, sediments, sludge, and ashes), and included review and improvement of some sampling methods already in place. Close to 1000 collected samples were repatriated to Canada for laboratory chemical analysis related to 200 chemical organic compounds. A database of analytical results was compiled and interpreted, based on North American environmental criteria, in order to establish the state of COPESUL's environmental quality.

Power Line Decommissioning Gray Creek to Kimberley

A power transmission line built to connect hydroelectric generating stations in BC's West Kootenay to the Sullivan Mine in Kimberley was no longer required following mine closure.  The client wanted to remove aging power line infrastructure, deactivate access roads and return the right-of-way to the Crown and adjacent private landowners. SLE first reviewed existing information and developed a decommissioning plan and construction cost estimate. Ultimately, SLE was engaged as Owner's Representative responsible for project management, detailed planning, public and stakeholder participation, permit acquisition, cost controlling, contractor procurement and management, and right-of-way title release. SLE completed the project under the direction of the client but managed all the details in order to minimize client staff allocation.

Implementation of Environmental Management System

SLE was commissioned for the implementation and internal audit of a corporate environmental management system in conformity to ISO 14001 standards within four divisions of the Compagnie Minière Québec Cartier: Mine Mount-Wright, railway, iron palletizing plant and port activities. The corporate EMS was applied in various installations throughout Quebec's north coast.
