Ryan Taylor, Project Manager, Western Canada, based in SLE's Burnaby offices, was recognized by Shell for his regulatory advocacy at a Shell site in British Columbia.
2011
"Best Demonstration of Goal Zero" in 2011
Shell recognized SLE as their global provider in achieving "Goal Zero" during 2011. SLE achieved this ranking by having "zero" recordable safety incidents, implementing programs to report near misses and potential incidents, organizing a reward program for employee safety stewardship, and embracing a culture that places safety at the centre of all decision-making. 2010
At Shell Canada's annual Health Safety Security and Environment (HSSE) awards evening on March 3, 2011, SNC-Lavalin received the 2010 HSSE award from Shell's Environmental Services group for an outstanding personal intervention made by SLE employee Allison McIntosh in Toronto, Ontario. The annual regional (North America) HSSE award is to recognize exemplary HSSE performance of companies for a particular year. The winners are selected via a stretched set of criteria and have clearly demonstrated differentiation in terms of passion and energy in their approach to HSSE.
2008
SNC-Lavalin Environment is the recipient of a 2008 Vendor Excellence Award from Shell Canada Ltd. The Award recognizes the successful delivery of project objectives for environmental consulting services with Shell Canada, including delivering on time and budget, with zero recordable injuries. The Vendor Excellence Award Program at Shell Canada recognizes suppliers who consistently demonstrate a commitment to health, safety and environmental performance, and who execute tasks in ways that demonstrate quality, service, commercial performance and innovation.
Since the early 1970s, SNC-Lavalin has worked on a significant number of airport projects, ranging from very large turnkey development projects to airport planning and feasibility studies for small communities. These projects have been conducted for clients in Canada, the USA, Africa, Europe, Asia and Latin America. SNC-Lavalin has become a leading player in the global airport development and redevelopment market by implementing integrated solutions at airports around the world.
SNC-Lavalin specializes in project and program management, and is experienced in all aspects of the privatization, expansion and operation of airport infrastructure projects. The Montréal-Trudeau Airport Expansion and Modernization Project, carried out as a joint venture, included the construction of a new cross-border jetty, a new international jetty and various expansion and renovation projects. SNC-Lavalin was asked to provide the structural engineering. The technical and organizational complexity of this project, completed on schedule and within budget, made it especially challenging. SNC-Lavalin served as Owner's Representative and project/construction manager on the expansion and enhancement of Vancouver International Airport. The works included expansion of the Transborder Apron Holdroom Upgrade, the East Apron, the East Concourse, and the East Chevron, as well as an interface to a hotel. The multi-phase project won several awards and distinctions. Vancouver International Airport worked closely with SNC-Lavalin to complete the section of Canada Line on Sea Island, and the interface of the line with the airport.

SNC-Lavalin completed the design and engineering of the new Greenfield Albian Sands Energy Inc.'s Expansion One Aerodrome (Albian Aerodrome) project in Wood Buffalo, Alberta. The fast tracked project was completed in less than one year and carried a capital cost of approximately $55 million. The project was rated number two, as Alberta's Top Industrial Project of the Year for 2007 by Alberta Construction Magazine. SNC-Lavalin's role included Operational Readiness and Transition Management services, Airfield lighting and approach design services and was also given an expanded role, which included the design, approach design and Nav Canada applications, operations planning and commissioning of the aerodrome.

SNC-Lavalin was selected the preferred company to provide Value Engineering of a previous Design and related Contract Documents for the planned Rehabilitation of Runway 16-34 at Kelowna International Airport and to provide changes and enhancements to the previous Design and related works.SNC-Lavalin Inc. provided changes in the pavement rehabilitation strategy and Contract Documents and was retained to prepare new Contract Documents, Technical Specifications and Drawings and to revise the Plan of Construction Operations for approval by Transport Canada. SNC-Lavalin is also providing Contract Administration / Project Management services during construction, scheduled in 2012.

SNC-Lavalin has provided technical advice in a number of areas related to airside and terminal facilities. Completed assignments include an Owner's Representative contract for works associated with construction of the new terminal expected to open in 2014, assessment of the relocation of airside facilities and analysis of OPEX budget forecasts. The services are geared to assist the operator with their negotiations with government agencies, design and construction partners. Current active assignments include design services for special systems (voice and data) for the new terminal and level of service analysis for the new terminal on opening day and for future horizons.

SNC-Lavalin completed a comprehensive master plan for the airport that described all levels and phases of development from a single runway, single terminal operation through to a four runway, three terminal, 30 million passenger facility. This analysis included environmental review, land acquisition requirements, financial strategies and private public partnership structures. The Illinois Department of Transportation is actively assembling lands for the inaugural phase of the South Suburban Airport. This is an ongoing project.
