Highway 407 East and West Extensions
Under the terms of the bid to own, operate, design, build and finance the Highway 407 Toll Road, SLF, a 50 percent joint venture between SNC-Lavalin and Ferrovial Agroman of Spain was responsible for the extension East and West of Highway 407, the world's first fully electronic, open-access toll highway. The West Extension comprises a 24-km, six-lane extension from Highway 403. Construction started on September 17, 1999, following approval under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA).The East Extension comprises a 15-km, four-lane extension from Markham Road East to Highway 7 at Brougham. The clearing and construction work commenced within hours of receiving approval from the CEAA on April 13, 2000. Both projects were completed ahead of schedule in 2001. Client: 407 ETR

Acadie Interchange Reconstruction
This was one of the largest road projects in Quebec in recent years. Our engineers' innovative structural design used a highly curved steel framework, and careful orchestration kept traffic moving during construction. Client: Ministère des Transports du Québec

Trans-Canada Highway
On the Brun-Way project in New Brunswick, we completed 98 km of new four-lane highway and refurbished 128 km of existing highway in only 27 months. This, despite a work stoppage of nearly two months so archaeologists could safely collect native Canadian artefacts uncovered during excavation. Client: Government of New-Brunswick

Sea to Sky Highway Improvement Project
SNC-Lavalin, as Owners Engineer, was responsible for the management of engineering and technical components of this P3 project, providing the Client's project team with the necessary engineering and technical expertise. SNC-Lavalin's scope of work included project management, conceptual design, preliminary design management, detailed design review management, construction supervision, quality management, records management, stakeholder consultation and public consultation. Client: BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure

Alaskan Way Tunnel, Seattle, USA
SNC-Lavalin was awarded a contract by ACS Group to design a 2.7-kilometre tunnel for a stretch of highway running along the waterfront in Seattle, USA.The project presents a major technical challenge, as the location is in a highly active seismic zone, and work will be carried out using the world's largest tunnel boring machine (TBM) at 17.5 meters in diameter, a real world-level milestone in tunnel building. The tunnel will be split over two levels and have two lanes in each direction, as well as all systems needed to ensure safe traffic circulation, including ventilation, surveillance, lighting and fire protection. The tunnel will replace a two-level viaduct that was badly damaged by recent earthquakes. It will make it possible to build an underground roadway to replace Seattle's current highway structure, which handles over 110,000 vehicles per day. Client: Washington State Department of Transportation

A-42 Highway, Madrid
The Ministry of Public Works awarded SNC-Lavalin the construction project for the A-42 Highway (between the M45 and the M-50 junctions) in the province of Madrid. The projects consisted of designing a 5.8 Km section of the road of which 4.2 km are underground. The project gives impulse to the integration of new urban development and the re-organising of the A-42 connections, and improves in travel times and urban permeability.
