Detailed Design of Irrigation Scheme, including Secondary, Tertiary, and In-farm of the TriÓngulo del Tolima

The project includes the Detailed Design of 20,000 hectares in the "TriÓngulo del Tolima" irrigation scheme, including secondary, tertiary, and in-farm detailed design. This project is well known to SNC-Lavalin, we carried out the feasibility study and detailed design of the main canal between 1995 and 1998, which is now under construction. The new contract will be managed with a team of more than 60 people. Two offices will be organized: one in Bogota and one in the project area in Coyaima. The project started in early January and will continue for 12 months.This project confirms the position of the Rural Development Department within the irrigation sector, where needs at the international level are steadily increasing.

Alwero Irrigation Project for the Production of High Quality Rice

In Ethiopia, a private company involved in the ALWERO project, acquired 10,000 ha of the Gambella People National Regional State Forest on a lease from the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and will develop it for high quality rice production. The project includes the development of canals, roads, irrigation and drainage structures. The project's expected outcomes are the production and export of quality rice at a rate of approximately 5 tons per hectare estimated for a double cropping total of 50,000 tons annually. Since 2010, the Rural Development Department has been responsible for the review and approval of the Request for Proposal documents and the detailed design of the construction works. The Department is also responsible for construction supervision and quality control of the works.

Design and Supervision of Rehabilitation Works on Irrigation Schemes

In Ghana, the Agriculture and Rural Development Department has been executing since 2009, two contracts with the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA) to undertake the Feasibility Study, Final Design & Construction Supervision of Rehabilitations/Extension Works on 6 irrigation schemes for a total of 4000 ha. A major component of these projects includes social mobilization for the implementation of participative systems for the management and operation of these irrigated schemes.

Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project for the Southern Department

The main purpose of the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project is to provide better sanitation and hygienic facilities, increase safe drinking water supply, and enhance the capacity of the local water institution SNEP (National Service of Drinking Water), local water committees and professional operators. SNC-Lavalin's mandate consists of serving as an intermediate between the communities that will benefit from the project and SNEP and advise them on project implementation and design. The project will benefit the Southern Department with rural communities that are smaller than 10 000 habitants.

Environmental Governance and Sustainable Livelihoods Program

The goal of the Environmental Governance and Sustainable Livelihoods Program (EGSLP) is to assist Indonesia in the creation and protection of sustainable livelihoods through equitable access to and sustainable management of natural resources and the environment. In terms of impact, the project should contribute to reducing poverty through increased sustainable livelihood opportunities and well being for poor rural men, women, boys and girls in selected watersheds in Sulawesi.The program approach is based on nine principles: i) Decentralized environmental management; ii) Community-driven development; iii) the sustainable management of land (agriculture), water, forest and river/coastal zone issues; iv) Empowerment of local partners and stakeholders in the selected watersheds; v) Matching grant mechanism; vi) Open communication; vii) Learning-by-doing; viii) Gender equality and social inclusion; and ix) Result-based iterative management.

Alatona Irrigation and Social Infrastructure Project

The Rural Development Department has been providing consulting services in Mali since 2009 for the Alatona Irrigation and Social Infrastructure Project (MCA-Mali) for detailed design, supervision and coordination of the works. The same client entrusted us with another project for the construction supervision of the route Niono-Goma Coura (81 km). In the past, SNC-Lavalin has also worked on the following projects: (i) Control and monitoring of development works of 1115 ha of the Koumouna perimeter in the Office du Niger (ii) Control and supervision of works for the M'BÚwani canal and the Massala drain also in the Office du Niger. In addition, we are also assisting CIDA in the Agriculture Support Project (supply chains for shallot, garlic, onion, and shea butter), whereby rural infrastructure is also planned. We were also involved in the Trade-Mali Project funded by USAID.

Agricultural Markets and Agribusiness Development Program

The objectives of the Agricultural Markets and Agribusiness Development Program (PDMAS) are to: (i) increase horticultural and non-traditional agricultural exports from 13,000 tons to 50,000 tons; and (ii) double farm revenues of producers supported by the program. We are also working to rationalize and improve domestic markets of crops and animal products and promote and expand exports of higher value added non-traditional agricultural exports. Our company previously worked in the non-traditional sub-sectors, through the Agricultural Export Promotion Project (PPEA) in Senegal.

Productive Development Project in the Northern region of El Salvador

The mandate was to assist the Fondo del Milenio (FOMILENIO - Millennium Challange Account) in the preparation and implementation of the Productive Development Projects in the Northern Zone of El Salvador (PDP), an integrated regional productive development initiative funded by the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) targeting horticulture, fruit culture, forestry, dairy, tourism and handicraft sectors. The project components are aimed at creating conditions to encourage private investment as a strategy for job creation and poverty reduction (technical assistance, developing business plans, bank guarantees, and loans).In the first phase, SNC-Lavalin developed the operational structure, management tools (manuals, procedures, scope of environmental and social management, monitoring / evaluation), strategy and project approach, as well as conducted studies and diagnoses of the institutional, economic, social and geographic situation of the northern zone of the country. During the second phase of the mandate, SNC-Lavalin provided technical assistance to FOMILENIO in managing and monitoring the implementation of the components of the PDP in a sustainable development perspective.
