Braskem

Residents of Triunfo, Brazil, are enjoying the benefits of fugitive emission management thanks to our work to measure and manage airborne contaminants like volatile organic compounds.

Between 1999 and 2014, we assessed more than 100,000 fugitive emission sources from existing equipment at Braskem’s petrochemical cracker plant in Triunfo, Brazil. The plant produces more than 30% of all olefins made in the country.

Air pollution management

For years, Braskem has trusted our teams to measure and manage airborne contaminants like volatile organic compounds (VOCs). They also asked us to develop the local workforce by training personnel to detect and repair sources of fugitive VOC emissions. This knowledge-sharing initiative will ensure that the local community can keep its air quality in check for generations to come.

Water contaminant control

We also performed a human health and ecological risk assessment of various bodies of water located at or near Braskem’s petrochemical complex. Our mandate included an environmental assessment of priority pollutants for more than 200 chemical organic compounds. Based on our results, Braskem moved forward with a top-tier environmental management plan for the Triunfo plant.

 Sustainability achievements:
  • Residents in Triunfo, Brazil, are enjoying cleaner air thanks to our contaminant management program.
  • We helped train local personnel to detect and repair sources of fugitive volatile organic compound emissions.
  • Our environmental specialists tracked more than 200 chemical organic compounds in nearby water bodies to support environmental management plans.
