On June 5, 2018, SNC-Lavalin employees in Chile achieved 365 Perfect Days – one full year without work-related injuries, security events or environmental releases. The employees were part of a project for “Corporación Nacional del Cobre de Chile (Codelco) – Chuquicamata Division,” one of the largest copper producers in the world, and for the replacement of its effluent treatment plant at the Chuquicamata Copper Smelter, located in the Antofagasta region of northern Chile. SNC-Lavalin HSE leadership recognized the project team for this remarkable accomplishment focused on global health, safety and environment, considering the challenging site conditions where the project is located.
On this project, our team provides services for detailed engineering, supply of equipment and materials, construction, commissioning and start-up for the new effluent treatment plant. The new installations will replace the existing plant and will improve the efficiency of how effluents from the gas cleaning plant are treated.
The key HSE programs and preventive actions that were implemented on the project are:
- HSE Leadership Program;
- HSE Training;
- Behaviour-Based Safety Program;
- Safety Campaigns: Hand Safety, Working at Height, Change Helmet Roles;
- Top 10 HSE Findings Management.
“365 Perfect Days is an important achievement that demonstrates how committed our team is to HSE goals, which focus on best practices in safety including preventive tools and self-care, said local HSE Manager, Sandra Montoya. We will stay focused, having accomplished this goal, and continue using our safety knowledge and behaviors to keep having Perfect Days.”
SNC-Lavalin formally introduced the Perfect Days initiative in January 2016. This metric measures our daily HSE record without any safety, security or environmental incident. Implementing these HSE practices and protocols to achieve our Perfect Day goal helps us to provide additional value through our services and deliver quality work with the highest standards in health and safety.
