What better way to close out the year than to celebrate a significant and impressive HSE milestone? As of late November, the Telecommunications team on Oil & Gas’ Kearl Oil Sands project in Alberta, Canada has achieved a whopping 7 years Loss Time Injury (LTI) free!
Maintaining a LTI-free work site ensures that no one gets seriously hurt and that everyone can go home safely to their families, each and every day.
The team’s success can be credited to the implementation of:
- a thorough ‘Tool Box Talk’ held each morning, followed by a voluntary stretching program during which team members discuss their previous day’s observations with the group. They rotate responsibility for the daily talk, so that each team member has an opportunity to present safety topics several times throughout the year.
- a minimum of three radio calls daily to all employees, re-iterating the “stop and think” protocol, which ensures employees are aware of changing conditions.
- senior site management’s commitment to addressing all safety concerns - no matter how big or small - promptly and effectively.
“This diverse team is passionate about safety, and from day-1 orientation to the end of every day, we aim to protect ourselves and one another,” said Daniel O’Connell, Telcommunications Manager, “We owe it to ourselves and our families to go home safe and sound whilst hitting all our other KPIs along the way as safely as possible. This benefits our organization and our client.”
A strong on-site safety culture backed by an excellent Calgary office team made it possible to foster an environment that is primed for the successful operation of our business. The Telecommunications team is leading the way for safety on the project, which in turn, has a positive impact on the working environment for SNC-Lavalin, all contractors and client employees.
“Safety isn't a slogan; it's an attitude!” added Daniel.
"I am so proud of the team. To consistently maintain an impeccable safety record for that long a period is an amazing achievement! Every time I visit the site, our employees impress me with their dedication and commitment to living our corporate values and raising the bar for safety. Their achievement is not only a 7-year milestone but a testament to an overall safety culture that aims to ensure no one gets hurt." remarked James O’Driscoll, HSE Country Manager, Canada.
Congratulations to all on this rare and exciting accomplishment!
