On October 25, SNC-Lavalin received the Project Management Category Award at the 2016 Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards Gala held at the Shaw Centre, in Ottawa, for its work on Goldcorp’s Eleonore Gold Mine Project.
In 2014, SNC-Lavalin was awarded the contract for the Eleonore Gold Mine Project by Goldcorp as prime consultant and engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) services provider. SNC-Lavalin successfully provided services for the surface facilities and infrastructure of the project. While Goldcorp was responsible for the mine, SNC-Lavalin was hired to implement the ore processing facilities—a crushing plant, ore storage, ore processing plant, paste backfill plant and tailings filtration plant—and various on-site infrastructure, including a 400-room permanent camp, an assay laboratory, an industrial water treatment plant, water and waste-water underground services, tailings management facilities, and on-site roads.
The awards were presented to consulting engineering firms for their work on projects that connect communities, improve safety and enhance the quality of life in Canada and around the world. These awards tell an important story about how consulting engineers are achieving significant societal outcomes. In total, 77 entries have been submitted, and twenty leading-edge projects benefiting the Canadian economy, environment and society received the highest recognition for engineering excellence.
“We are thrilled to receive this recognition for the Eleonore Gold Mine Project, which was a challenging but very rewarding project with an ambitious first gold-pour date and harsh climate conditions”, said José J. Suarez, President, Mining & Metallurgy. “I am very proud of the dedication and effort of our project team, and all staff, who worked tirelessly on making this project successful. The project management aspect has been very rigorous, yet innovative and centered on our client’s needs, and it truly made a difference”.
