Highways & Bridges

Every day, we help people reach their destinations safely and reliably by designing, building, operating, maintaining and rehabilitating highways, bridges and their related infrastructure.

We offer integrated, multidisciplinary technical expertise to design, build and operate new transportation infrastructure and maintain existing structures in safe condition.

Our experience covers the entire lifecycle of infrastructure; from designing and building complex highway systems, providing best-in-class annual operational and seasonal maintenance, to delivering cost-effective and timely rehabilitation or reconstruction services.

Specifically, we expertly provide end-to-end solutions for:

  • Highways, overpasses, interchanges and tunnels
  • Bridges of all kinds, including cable-stayed and heritage structures
  • Intelligent transportation systems, including closed circuit television cameras, traffic counters and road weather information systems
  • Drainage features, retaining walls, signage, markers

A trusted partner for our clients

SNC-Lavalin is proud to have earned the trust of our clients, which include public, private and First Nations asset owners. The relationships we forge with them are long-lasting, with many of our operations and maintenance contracts covering 30 years or more.

Clients rely on us to design and build safe infrastructure solutions that maximize the life cycle of their assets and ensure their serviceability with effective monitoring and assessments, preventive maintenance, and timely communications with stakeholders. When acting as owner’s engineer, we also advise clients on which solutions will bring their communities greatest value over the long term and we ensure that the work is completed in accordance with the project requirements.

Solutions built to last

When we engineer projects, safety and durability are among top considerations, influencing the design criteria and choice of materials. For instance, the new Signature Bridge over the Saint Lawrence (the new Champlain Bridge Corridor) that we have contributed to the design and are currently building in Montreal, Canada, has an expected useful life of 125 years.

Design-build and P3 models

One of our key differentiators is our experience with both design-build and public-private partnership (P3) models. Design-build contracts allow us to deliver large projects faster and at a lower cost than traditional design-bid-build methods. Meanwhile, P3 arrangements help lower risk while simultaneously providing a high level of service for our public clients. Whatever the terms of the contract, our goal is to deliver quality solutions on time and on budget, and that satisfy client requirements with a high degree of end user satisfaction.
