SNC-Lavalin ECS will complete an upgrade of EdC’s SCADA/EMS. The transmission system operates at 230 kV and includes a 69 and 30 kV sub-transmission network. The upgrade includes hardware, software, integration, testing, documentation, main control system training, a dispatcher training simulator, a business continuity solution and support services for installation and commissioning.
 


PSE&G,
United States
The PSE&G project includes the design, supply, installation and commissioning of a new SCADA/EMS. PSE&G delivers gas and electricity to 70% of New Jersey residents and is one of the largest combined electric and gas companies in the USA. The project includes software, integration, commissioning, testing, documentation, training, dispatcher-training simulator, and disaster recovery system.
 


Provincial Electricity Authority,
Thailand
SNC-Lavalin supplied six new Distribution Management Systems (SCADA/DMS/EMS) to the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) in Thailand. The PEA power system serves more than 12 million customers, and covers 510,000 km2. The scope of work included all computer hardware and software, remote terminal units, communication equipment, the construction of control centre buildings, and other peripheral equipment.
 

Hydro-Québec Laser
Canada

The Hydro-Québec Laser project consisted of the replacement of the existing LASER system at TransÉnergie (Power Control Division). LASER is the highest level EMS system for the Hydro-Québec power grid. The new LASER system is configured with modern, state-of-the-art advanced EMS functions to monitor and control the Hydro-Québec electrical network. The system will validate future operating plans associated with power production.

 


PSE&G,
United States
SNC-Lavalin ECS completed an upgrade of the Public Service Electricity & Gas (PSE&G) SCADA/EMS, located in Newark, New Jersey. PSE&G supplies over 75% of that state’s electricity, serving more than two million customers in over 300 urban, suburban, and rural communities, including the state’s six largest cities.
 


Powerlink Queensland
Australia
SNC-Lavalin ECS supplied a turnkey SCADA/EMS to Powerlink Queensland located in Brisbane. Powerlink's statewide transmission network extends more than 1,700 km north to south, covering approximately half of Australia's eastern seaboard. Powerlink's network is comprised of over 90 highvoltage substations interconnected by 12,000 km of transmission lines.
 


Sichuan Electric Power Company
China

SNC-Lavalin ECS supplied a SCADA/GMS/EMS, including real-time market applications, to the Sichuan Provincial Power Company. Sichuan's population of 84 million is served by a hydropower network with an installed capacity of 15,000 MW.

 

Electricidad de Caracas
Venezuela

The Electricidad de Caracas SCADA/EMS serves a system that has five generating buses and two substations, and is connected to the national electric network. The transmission network consists of a 230kv transmission system and a 69kv and 30kv Sub-transmission System. A full suite of EMS and GMS applications was delivered.

 

Hebei
China

The Hebei Power Network includes 11 distribution districts and plays an important role in the Northern China Power Network. The Hebei EMS is installed in Shijiazhuang, the capital city of the Hebei province. The southern part of the Hebei network has 18 power plants with a total capacity of 6,919.5 MW. The northern part of Hebei network has 11 power plants with a total capacity of 5,299 MW, and twenty-two 220 kV transformer stations with a total capacity of 4,980 MVA. The SCADA/EMS includes SCADA, GMS, OPS, NAS, and DTS applications. The system also supports Dispatch Evaluation, Reports, Computer Communication, and other user required functions.

 

Henan Dispatch Automation
China

SNC-Lavalin ECS supplied a Dispatch Automation System to the Henan Provincial Electric Power Corporation’s Dispatching and Communication Bureau in Zhengzhou Henan province. The SCADA/EMS includes a back-up system and a full suite of SCADA, OPS, and NAS applications.

 

Ningxia
China

The SCADA/EMS for the Ningxia Electric Dispatch Bureau, with an installed generation which exceeds 3,000 MW, is used to monitor and control the Ningxia region’s generation and transmission system. The Automatic Generation Control and Economic Dispatch applications are used to control three hydro stations and two thermal plants. The SCADA/EMS includes a suite of SCADA, GMS, and NAS applications. The system provides the platform for future implementation of transmission level security applications. Gansu
China

The Gansu Power System is situated in the northwest region of China and is under the jurisdiction of the Northwest Power Network. The total installed capacity is 4,000 MW with 2,000 MW within Gansu’s jurisdiction. The total capacity is expected to reach 10,000 MW by the year 2005. There are three levels of control centres: regional, provincial and district dispatch. The SCADA/EMS is connected to the Shangxi, Qinghai, and Ningxia provincial power systems. The Gansu SCADA/EMS controls 14 power generation plants (11 thermal and three hydro) and the provincial power network using SCADA, GMS, and NAS applications.

 

Northwest
China

This Energy Management System for the Northwest Electric Power Administration is used for monitoring and controlling generation and transmission throughout Northwest’s area of responsibility. The system responsibilities include four provincial power systems (one of which is Ningxia) with 330 kV and 220 kV bulk transmission and generation exceeding 14,000 MW. The system architecture is based on the current industry standard open architecture, including a fully integrated relational database. The system includes SCADA functionality in addition to advanced applications such as Automatic Generation Control, Economic Dispatch, Network Topology, State Estimator, Bus Load Forecast, and Customized Disturbance Recording.
